Just trying to use the existing infrastructure against itself in a way that will cause the most destruction.
Terrorists who fight for a religion or political system eventually fall victim to there own Hypocrisy as the inherent flaws of there ideology are amplified by there extremism.
Russia lost the cold war to a capitalist America because of the inherent flaws of a communist economy. Al Qaeda will also fall to the hypocrisy of using violence in the name of a "religion of peace"
A group with no ideology however can do anything and is impossible to destroy.
